According to the worldwide survey on the coworking world, the profile of the coworker is usually a young person, with higher education, who works in new technologies, lives near his coworking center and is very satisfied with his workspace.

These data come from an analysis conducted by Deskmag together with other organizers on the coworking world.

One of the most interesting findings of the study is that, contrary to popular belief, freelancers are the minority within the coworking community: only 44% are freelancers or solo entrepreneurs, while approximately 55% of respondents own or work for a company. Of those working for a company, 18% are entrepreneurs with employees and about 35% are employees of a company. These data show that coworking facilities are becoming a popular place to start and operate new businesses.

The survey also indicates that 8% of coworkers work for companies with more than 100 employees. Large companies are beginning to experiment with coworking and this data reflects the growing social awareness of coworking as a work option.

Coworkers tend to be young men. Forty-one percent of coworkers are under 30 and 78% are under 40. Only 8% of coworkers are over 50. About 2 out of 3 coworkers are men.

However, while the average age of the members is relatively low, their level of education is quite high. 75% of coworkers have completed at least a bachelor's degree. This is a much higher level than the average population and even above small business owners.

Another interesting fact is that almost all coworkers agree that their coworking experience has been positive: 95% of coworkers are either very satisfied (57%) or satisfied (34%) with their overall experience, and 85% plan to stay in their current coworking space for at least another year.

And on the question, what kind of jobs are available in a coworking space, the answer seems easy: new technologies. The broad field of new technology accounts for more than half of the coworkers who responded to this survey. By segment, 44% of coworkers are web developers/designers, 13% work in PR and marketing and the other 43% are from a mix of professions, including artists, entrepreneurs, journalists and consultants.
